Our Story
I’ve had a love for sinking my hands in the dirt and an innate need to nurture and watch things grow since childhood. Some of my most vivid memories are of planting vegetable and flower seeds in my dad’s garden and picking abundant baskets of green beans on my grandparent’s farm. I’ve always been enamored by farm living…the simplicity and intentionality, the animals, even the smells! To me, there’s just something about this way of life…yes even the hard, gritty work…that simply settles my soul.
Kenny was raised on a farm and repeatedly tasked with the hard, gritty work! He’s always appreciated the core values and grounded life it brings. He has a love for the outdoors and appreciates the lessons learned on the farm. His love for me must run pretty deep because he ALWAYS shows up!
Our shared values led the way to raising our children, Luke and Gracie, with opportunities to connect with nature, an appreciation for pausing to enjoy the little things, and a bit of healthy hard work. As a family we’ve always kept a backyard vegetable and cut flower garden. When the kids were younger, they loved to plant seeds, watch for signs of life, and haul harvests into the house. It was a joy to watch the garden grow through their eyes!
Initially, my intention was to grow enough food to feed our family and preserve harvests to enjoy throughout the winter. I would always manage to tuck in a few more plants than truly needed, but I loved to share the overabundance with family and friends. While helping in the garden one summer, Gracie (8 at the time), asked if we could set up a “Mother-Daughter Farm Stand.” We spread the word, repeatedly sold out, and before the following season was underway folks were eagerly asking if we’d be selling our veggies again.
The logistical challenges of hauling items to the end of our long drive and keeping produce fresh in summer heat quickly had me rethinking. We took to social media so friends and family could easily see what overflow was available. Folks reached out to order, and we put together personalized bags of goodies. In the off-season I began sharing the simple moments of our farm that caught my attention, insights learned along the way, and information about how we care for our animals. I quickly learned I wasn’t the only one enamored by farm life!
I have always valued visiting small, family-owned farms serving their communities through roadside stands, on-farm stores, and farmer’s markets. I believe people should know where their food comes from and how it’s grown while having the opportunity to develop a personal connection with those who actually grow it. The more interest others began to show in our farm, the more I began to contemplate what it would look like to offer the same experience I so deeply appreciate.
With a lot of encouragement and the support of my amazing friends and family, I began selling at our local farmer’s market. I quickly realized just how much I love connecting with the local community and hearing what foods and flowers others enjoy. Experiencing how truly impactful a small, local farm can be only grew my desire to further offer fresh, healthy produce and unique, quality blooms.
Although I’ve been hesitant over the years to put this little dream of mine out into the world, reflections finally gave way to possibilities and the confidence to give myself permission to share what I love with others. Being responsible for growing the food and flowers others choose to gather around is a role I carefully own. I’m certainly not an expert by any means, but I love learning and sharing my experience to educate, inspire, and help others feel successful. I am thankful for the opportunity to offer local, lovingly grown produce and flowers while connecting with each of you! Thank you for entrusting our family to grow for yours!
